The Christmas stocking challenge

In my stocking from Father Christmas this year (YES!! I still believe in Santa!), I got a tin of '50 things to do once in a lifetime' which seems appropriate to put on my Challenge Kate blog!!  Going through the cards brought back a lot of memories and I was surprised at how many I have already done. interestingly a few are also on my 'Bucket List'.  No time limit on doing the rest but I am definitely going to give it my best shot to do them all!

The ones in black I have done.
The ones in red I have yet to do.....
The ones in purple I have put in my challenges for 2015!!

1. Act in a play

2. Appear in a police line-up
I have to do this in 2015. Not all police stations do line ups any more so this will be a challenge!

3. Be an extra in a movie
Perhaps if I contact some agencies they might let me do it just for a day.

4. Busk for a day
I did a lot of busking in my youth and especially in my 20's.  Mainly at Camden Market in London but also in Amsterdam in the 80's when I went over to protest at new rules the city was thinking of bringing in regarding busking.

5. Buy a metal detector and look for hidden treasure
A great excuse to go to the beach for the day!

6. Climb a mountain - I have done this but always up to do it again.
Hopefully on the Isle of Man in 2015.

7. Dine out at a Michelin starred restaurant and send a course back to the kitchen
I wonder if I could, it seems awfully rude :P

8. Do a parachute jump
One day - probably as a tandem jump though so all I have to do is look down... Ahhhhhh!

9. Drink a really expensive bottle of champagne
Done this now as one of the 50 challenges!

10. Dye your hair a mad colour
Oh been there done that.  The first time I tried to dye my hair purple aged 16 years, I used a mouthwash call gentian violet which is an antiseptic dye used to treat fungal infections of the skin!  It was so very bright and lovely until I washed my hair and it washed out leaving me with grey hair - ha ha!

11. Fly first class on a plane
I am saving up my BA points!!

12. Get snapped by paparazzi
Do I do it through fame or infamy??

13. Go deep sea fishing and eat your catch
I remember the day vividly, it was in Weymouth in 1984. I was camping with friends, including my dearest best friend John who sadly died in 2004.  We had hired a boat for the day and spent it trying so desperately to catch some fish for tea.  We did catch a few teeny weeny little fishes and tried cooking them on the camp fire that night; after one mouthful (I did eat the catch!) we decided to hot foot it down to the nearest chippy for a good old portion of fish n chips!!

14. Go for a midnight picnic
I used to take the children up to the woods for midnight picnics as an adventure.  So much fun with torches, flasks of hot chocolate, cheese sandwiches and spooky trees!

15. Go for afternoon tea at a snazzy hotel
I have done this a couple of times over the years but I do feel obliged to do this again - what a coincidence my sister gave me a voucher for afternoon tea at a snazzy hotel for Christmas... LOL.

16. Go on an African safari
When I can afford it and have someone fun to go with.

17. Go skinny dipping
I did this a few times when I was touring the Greek islands in 1985; oh those were the days!

18. Go skydiving
Probably linked to the parachute jump, what am I saying????? Of course involving parachutes!

19. Go stargazing
Over the years camping, travelling and as a Scout Leader I did a lot of stargazing. I am not sure I could recognise many now though.

20. Go to a classical concert
I have been to several classical concerts.  I love the violins and cello with a hint of a piano to set it off.

21. Go to a huge sporting event
How big is huge?  When I was a child I went to see the gymnastics at a major event but I can't remember which one it was I was about 10.  I have organised a major world championships for pole sports involving hundreds of athletes around the world in preliminaries and over 120 in the finals at the world event.

22. Go to a movie première
This was amazing. I went to the movie première of 'Pink Floyd The Wall' in Leicester Square, London - how flippin cool is that !!

23. Go to an outdoor festival
Oh I have been to many. From Stonehenge (showing my age), to Reading to Download. Rock on!

24. Go to the opera and listen to the fat lady sing
I saw Madame Butterfly in St. Petersburg, March 1984. I saw Carmen in Oxford in 2002; my daughter wore her flamenco dress aged 9 and was the darling of the audience.  Both operas were very long but I did get an inclusive buffet with champagne in the many intervals of Madame Butterfly; needless to say I fell asleep half an hour before the end!!

25. Go wild in Rio during the carnival
I do want to visit Brazil - it would be rude not to go wild at the carnival!!

26. Have a full body massage
I have had many of these over the years and fully intend to keep on having them, in fact I am booking one for Friday!

27. Have your handwriting analysed
This could be scary. Do I want to know what I am like? Maybe I already know ha ha ha !

28. Have your portrait painted
I was an artists model in the early 90's for a local college; a life model of course!

29. Learn a foreign language
Me encanta hablar español pero yo aún no estoy muy fluida.

30. Learn to play a musical instrument
I can play the guitar, hence the ability to go busking!

31. Milk a cow
I was born in the countryside too close to cows for comfort. Of course I have milked a cow. I also had to negotiate a field of bullocks every morning on my way to school.

32. Plant a tree
I planted many as a child; my mother was forever gardening so guess who was on occasion the gardener's assistant??

33. Ride a camel in the desert
I did this in Morocco in 1985. It was hysterical just getting up off the floor.  First the back legs go up instead of the front legs so you fly forward over the camel's neck and just before you go completely head over heels the front legs go up and you fly backwards into a crumpled heap.  Just as you settle into a safe position the camel starts to walk and you get jolted forward and backwards in a rapid motion; safe position disappears......!  I did manage to stay on though.

34. Ride a Harley Davidson
I am hoping I can convince my friends over in Mexico City to let me have a ride - please Jorge Sandoval??

35. Ride the Trans-Siberian Express across Asia
Now this I have been planning to do at some point. I have already bought the book and done loads of research - although I will probably take the Trans-Mongolian route to Beijing.

36. See the Northern Lights
I have to plan this to get the right location and time of year.

37. Shower in a waterfall
Maybe I can combine this with no. 38?

38. Spend New Year’s in an exotic location
Oh yes - must be done.

39. Stage dive
Maybe I should write to Metallica and see if they will let me when they come to the UK next year.

40. Stand on the International Date Line
The only way to do this is to go to Fiji. If I can find a waterfall I could combine this with 37 & 38!

41. Swim with dolphins
I have been advised the best place to do this is in New Zealand as they are wild and not in a commercial environment.

42. Take a boat trip whale watching
Possibly could combine this with seeing the Northern Lights.

43. Take a candlelit bath with a loved one
Luckily I have already done this or this could be really tricky!!

44. Take a Ferrari for a test drive
I did this as a challenge and also drove an Aston Martin too! - But I am a Ferrari girl :)

45. Take a gondola trip in Venice
I have been to Venice but did not take a gondola trip - an excuse to go back again I guess.

46. Take a trip in a hot air balloon
Something I have always wanted to do.

47. Throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain
I did this on a meander in Rome a couple of years ago when I stayed with my lovely Italian friends.

48. Visit a fortune teller
I saw a palm reader when I was 2 months pregnant with George and she told me I would have 3 children and travel a lot!

49. Volunteer for a charity
I have done a lot of voluntary work for all sorts of charities over the years.

50. Write a fan letter to a movie star
I should find out who is filming in the UK and ask them if I can be an extra in a movie to combine no. 3.
